Ingredients information

What is Sodium Coco Isethionate?

This is a very mild, coconut based cleanser.  It comes in a fine powder to make it easy to combine into our bars.  In the US they call it “baby foam”, which gives you an idea of how wonderful it is!  A little science, but bars need to have two slightly different cleansers to be really good.  So we have this in combination with Cocamidopropyl Betaine.

What is Cocamidopropyl Betaine?

This is a liquid coconut-based cleanser.  It’s known for producing foam quickly, it’s what makes our bars foam up, even thought they’re super gentle.

What is Oat Silk?

Oat silk is basically the best part of oats, ground down to a fine powder.  It helps to remove any greasy dirt gently, while leaving a soft feel to the skin.  It is 100% natural and gentle.

What is Benzyl Alcohol and Dehydroacetic Acid?

These are preservatives.  Because our bars have very low pH they need something in them to make sure they don't get any bacteria or other yukkies growing on them in the damp environment of your bathroom.  I know, sounds gross.  We use the mildest preservative possible, certified by COSMOS and EcoCert bodies.  They're both less than 0.9% of the bar.

What are the main moisturisers in this bar?

We use Coconut Oil and Cocoa Butter to moisturise skin gently and naturally.

What is Stearic Acid and what does it do in this bar?

Stearic Acid is a vegan "emulsifier", which means it binds everything together.  Ours is certified palm free.  It helps the bar to be firm and non-oily to the touch, but still allows the lovely butters to melt into skin.  It also stops skin feeling oily after moisturising by leaving skin protected and dry,, so your little ones can get right back to playing.

What is Euphorbia cerifera (Candelilla) Wax?

Candelilla is a plant found in the southern parts of North America, and the wax it produces is a vegan substitute for Bees Wax.  It even smells a little like honey, and contributes to our bar's scent.

Why are Sodium Bicarbonate (Baking Soda) and  Potassium Bitartrate (Cream of Tartar) in your brick?

Have you done that experiment with your kids where you make a volcano yet?  Remember that?  Yup!  Well, that was Baking Soda.  And Baking Soda is doing the same thing in our bubble brick- making it fizz up and stay fizzy in the bath producing bubbles!  The Cream of Tartar does the same thing - together they're better than alone!

What is Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate and what does it do in the bubble brick?

Sodium Lauryl Sulfocetate (SLSa) is a non-sulfate surfectant - it means it's something that cleanses and bubbles, but it's sulfate-free.  When the baking soda produces oxygen, the SLSa forms the bubble structures around it making it rest on the surface of the bath!

What is Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond Oil)?

Sweet Almond Oil is the pressed oil of almonds.  Many people use it to treat eczema, and it is a gentle, non-clogging moisturiser.  We have it in our bars because it helps offset the drying tendency of Baking Soda.  Unfortunatly it is a tree nut oil, so if you have a tree nut allergy we'd suggest caution and if in doubt steer clear.

What is Polysorbate 80?

Polysorbate 80 is a plant-based liquid used to bring all the ingredients of of Bubble Brick together and make sure it really bubbles in the bath.  It's also used in some foods, so is 100% edible!  It is very gentle for skin, which is why we've used it in our bubble brick, because your kid is going to be literally swimming in it we're trying to use the most gentle skin ingredients possible.

What is Mentha Spicata (Spearmint Essential Oil)?

An essential oil derrived from pressed leaves of Spearmint, it's what gives our bubble brick it's refreshing smell!

What are CI numbers?

This is the "official" way to refer to colours in cosmetics - in this case the blue!

Why does the Bubble Brick have Rayon, Urea,  Aqua, Tin Oxide, Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, & Shellac in it?

These are all used to make the sparkling biodegradable glitter that's sprinkled on our bars.  They make it stay sparkly in your bath without cluttering the environment in plastic particles.  What is Biodegradeable glitter!  Good question.  It is small flakes that are made from plants, mostly eucalyptus trees, that are sustainably managed.  These glitters are 100% plastic free, aluminium free and antimony free (i.e. do not damage the environment or skin and disappear entirely into nature).  It is compliant with all the microbead and microplastic legislation.

How to Use

Solid Moisturiser: Moisturising without a big blob of cream seems impossible right? Wrong!  It’s easy and mess free.  Just take the moisturiser bar in your hand and rub it along the desired patch of skin (one or two passes should do it) the skin and friction naturally melts the bar just enough to leave some behind on the skin, then simply massage in with your hands.  TA DA!  Smooth as a baby’s bottom.

How do I use a bar on my kids' hair?

SUPER easy – but don’t take our word for it, we have a video 😊 .  Have a look HERE.

How do you recommend I use the bars?

The great thing about the bars is you actually can just hand it over to your kid (unlike a liquid where there’s always that risk it’s all going to disappear down the drain!!).  If you want detailed info on how you can use it, have a look HERE.

How do I use a bubble brick?

Using our Bubble Brick is easy!  While running the bath, just break off a chunk (almost like a cookie!) and hold it under the running water while crumbling it in your hand until completely disintegrated.  Bits may drop into the bottom of the bath - that’s no problem, just swish the water around to completely dissolve them (this also helps make even bigger bubbles!).  If you have low water pressure swish the bath water around to make lots of bubbles.  The end result is just as many bubbles as liquid bubble bath, and no plastic - Fantastic!

For storage we recommend storing our brick on a small plate or soap dish.  After the first use our brick will fit into a Rowdy Kind tin, but when you first receive it it will be a little too large to fit the tin.

FAQs

This is a selection of our most common FAQs.  For a full list please see each item's individual listings.

What makes your bars suitable for kids’ skin?

Because kids’ skin is thinner and less oily than adult skin, we’ve created a bar that won’t disrupt the skin’s natural barriers.  That’s why our bars are using the most gentle of cleansers, coupled with cocoa butter to moisturise skin.   In addition, we’ve chosen ingredients that will maintain a neutral pH – about 6.  Water in the UK is 7-8, skin is 5.5-6.6.  So our bars are matching your kids’ skin as much as possible.  We have a whole bunch more info about kids’ skin HERE.

Are your bars tear-free?

Well, we’ve done our best to get as close as possible.  There isn’t an agreed test for tear-free (that we know of!).  Most products that are “tear free” make this claim based on the pH of their products being neutral (which we are).  In addition we find that due to lower water content our foam drips down the face less, so its less likely to get in eyes.

How long does one Bubble Brick last?

One bubble brick should be good for at least 5 baths (so break off your chunks accordingly!).  If you have really hard water at home, you may need a bit more per bath in order to get the desired bubble volume.  If it doesn’t foam up for you it may be due to lack of water pressure, so swish the bath water about to make bubbles.

What age is this bundle suitable for?

Our Hair & Everywhere bars and moisturiser are suitable for 1+. We recommend the Bubble Brick for kids 3+
